Rejection. Release. Resolution.

Most window film is sold on one number. Bellfort's C.H.A.M.P architecture is built on three, because a film that only rejects heat still leaves it sitting in your glass.

Spectrally selective

Sunlight is not one thing

Roughly half the energy arriving at your glass is infrared — invisible, and responsible for most of the heat you feel. About 3% is ultraviolet, which does the fading and the skin damage. The rest is the visible light you actually want.

A conventional dark film treats all three the same way: block everything. A spectrally selective film separates them, which is why a lighter Bellfort film can outperform a much darker cheap one.

Ultraviolet · 300–400nm

Rejected at 99%. This is the band that fades upholstery and damages skin.

Visible · 400–700nm

Passed through at the shade you choose. This is the part that decides how the car looks.

Infrared · 700–2500nm

Rejected up to 95%. The band that actually makes the cabin unbearable.

Why one number never tells the story

Rejection

Turns infrared energy away at the glass line before it becomes cabin heat. This is the number every brand advertises, and on its own it is incomplete.

R2

Release

No film rejects everything. Whatever it absorbs heats the glass, and hot glass radiates inward. Release describes how much of that stored energy the film sheds back outward.

R3

Resolution

Thermal performance is worthless if the view degrades. Resolution covers optical clarity — no haze at night, no colour cast, no distortion in the mirrors.

Combined, the three behaviours are what Bellfort calls the C.H.A.M.P 3R concept. Published values are measured on film mounted to clear glass.

Technical questions

The detail behind the claims

Hybrid films combine dyes and metallised or non-metallic particles to balance cost and performance. Ceramic films use non-conductive ceramic particles that reject infrared without blocking radio frequency. Bellfort's C.H.A.M.P construction uses both in combination.
A film that rejects energy still absorbs some of it. Absorbed energy heats the glass, and hot glass radiates inward. Release describes how much of that absorbed energy the film sheds back outward instead of into the cabin.
No, and the two get confused constantly in advertising. Infrared rejection describes performance in one band. Total solar energy rejected accounts for ultraviolet, visible and infrared together. Always check which figure a quote is using.
